Moelfre RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Volunteer crew assists two divers in trouble off the Anglesey coast.

The Moelfre RNLI inshore Lifeboat crew launched on the 2nd September at 1253hrs to reports of two divers in difficulty 200 yards off Bull Bay, Amlwch.

The RNLI Inshore Lifeboat launched within 6 minutes of the emergency call,
and arrived at the scene within 20 minutes. As they approached the scene the
two casualties were scrambling up rocks to the awaiting Moelfre Coastguard
team.

Both casualties, a teenage girl and her father, both from Wrexham, had been
diving from the beach when they were swept out to sea by the offshore wind
strong tide. They had been struggling for some time to get ashore.

Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station press officer Dave Massey said:

‘Both the casualties were assessed by the RNLI first aid trained volunteer
Lifeboat crew, thankfully despite being exhausted and shook up, no further
medical attention was required’.

The Moelfre RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was diverted from their weekly training
exercise at 2030hrs on Thursday (1st September) to search the sea off
Amlwch following the discovery of wet clothes and a towel on the rocks. The
Moelfre RNLI Inshore Lifeboat crew carried out a detailed search of the area
along with Coastguard teams from Moelfre and Cemaes, and a search and
rescue helicopter from RAF Valley.

Following an extensive search in darkness, lasting over an hour, it was
decided it was a false alarm with good intent and the search was called off.
