Many memorial services and commemorations have been held over the weekend keeping all connected with the Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat very busy. The weekend marked the 150th anniversary of the storm that turned the Aux Steamer ‘Royal Charter’ into a tragic wreck. Doubly important to the Moelfre station was the 50th anniversary of the rescue of the 8 crew of ‘MV Hindlea’ on the 27th October 1959. This remarkable rescue led by Coxswain Richard ‘Dic’ Evans a few hundred yards away from the wreck of ‘The Royal Charter’ precisely a 100 years later, has gone down in RNLI history and acts as continuing inspiration to the present crew.
